Conservation
When we are appointed to a project where conservation is one of the priorities, we strive to keep what is best about the project within its fabric and structure whilst allowing for an acceptable amount of intervention and change to be accommodated in the renovation process. This could be a change that will effectively upgrade its facilities to breathe new life into it and make it fit for modern use, or simply allow it to function as it always has done.
The key is to retain all that is of historical or aesthetic importance and install new materials and technology for modern use. It is a fine balance between what is important to keep and what can be sacrificed but if the approach is correct, far more can be retained than expected.
_space have been privileged to have worked on a number of high profile conservation projects in the North East, all of which have given us great pride and joy, particularly when the finished results are revealed to the community.
